After reading his first novel, Defining Moments, I couldn’t imagine how Bradley could brilliantly append to this disturbing subject matter, but in fact he did. As he went deeper into the lives of other families who have suffered parallel situations and worse, my stomach twisted. The stories were mesmeric and profoundly poignant. His focus includes horrific testimonies of those who have experienced the relentless effects first hand of this dreadful disease. I was unnerved reading in detail about the shattered lives of these beautiful innocent children and some parent’s ability to turn their backs on them…..the ones who truly needed the most help. It’s an amazingly sad account of the seedy underworld of drug addiction and accessibility that devastates and destroys entire families. It’s a must read for those who are entangled in this epidemic and seeking help. Once again, this awful truth brought me to tears.
Great Role Model
I was in the downtown mall in Sacramento two weeks ago and came across your book “Defining Moments.” I picked up your book, opened it to a couple random pages, read a couple lines then put it down and walked out of the store. About 15 minutes passed as I continued to brouse through the mall stores, then all of the sudden I felt compelled to walk back in the store where I found your book and I bought it. I’m very glad I purchased your book. I’m excited to start reading “The addict among us.”
Thank you for sharing your family story and for helping people in all the ways that you do. You are truly making the world a better place and a role model for us all.
Being that I lost my son to prescription drugs four years ago and even if I didnt..this book was an excellent read! Bradley is a great writer and I know first hand what he went through.., I wish he and his family the very best!!!!!
I saw the author speak at our local high school and then subsequently read his book. It is a chilling, compelling account of a problem that all parents need to be aware of. It is sad, funny, scary, and awe-inspiring as Mr.DeHaven takes the reader to the lengths he went to to get his son off of prescription drugs. This is a real problem that affects real people. I would highly recommend this read.
Inspiring, engaging and passionate author
It is clear that Bradley DeHaven is passionate about everything. He loves his family and is committed to see things through…never giving up…even if it means acknowledging your own “pre-disastered” faults. He has written this book by intertwining 3 aspects of his life (his childhood, his immediate family, and the drug bust). He cleverly draws you in and educates you at the same time. I admire his strength and ability to unconditionally love. Very few receive such love and Brandon is lucky to have such wonderful parents. I also admire Brad’s confidence to share this story with everyone. So many lives can be touched and saved because he is so open and candid. I laughed and cried…that means this is a great book!
AN “E” RIDE!!
From the dedication to the Epilogue … Riveting to be sure. Anyone who is raising a child — has raised a child — can appreciate the trial and tribulations of this amazing story. It is one of the many nightmares parents can face. I thought I would just read a few chapters and go about my day … needless to say my day was spent reading this amazing tribute to love, tenacity and the never-ending dedication of a father (and family) to do what he had to do to get his son whole. It’s real and raw — no sugar-coating … an “E” ride. Even knowing the story beforehand and the “characters” involved, did not take away from the powerful story and message of this book. Everyone and any anyone can walk away from reading this book with a new or renewed understanding of this epidemic. This book is important on so many levels. Brava!!!!
